A Mandan musician participates in a competition to open up to great renowned artists. Brianna Helbling is back in the headlines, progressing into another great competition.
At 7, she wrote her first song. Learning to play the piano was only the beginning of Brianna’s musical career.
âIn kindergarten I really want to try learning piano, my parents thought it would be a phase, but it actually worked,â Helbling says.
In 2017, Brianna auditioned for American Idol when they came to Fargo and reached the next round in Los Angeles.
âI wasn’t expecting much like nobody does. You have hope and you don’t want them to be dashed, âsays Helbling.
Although his journey with American Idol ended early, his career was only just beginning.
âIt was a great way to help market my name in North Dakota and it gave me a boost in my career,â says Helbling.
Brianna says she wouldn’t be the artist she is without the support of her hometown.
âI wouldn’t be anywhere where I am now with music right now if it wasn’t for growing up in a city where people support me to do shows and achieve all of my goals in life,â says Helbling.
Valerie Vogel was Brianna’s principal at St. Joseph’s and has known Brianna from daycare. She said she had attended every concert she could and had become one of her biggest supporters.
“She used to be on our talent shows at St. Joseph’s School and many of us always say ‘we got to know her first’ when she succeeds, we will always remember her in the process. to sing, âsays Vogel.
Vogel thanks Brianna for remaining so respectful and humble, but apparently she always has been. She’s sure that if Brianna wants to sing, she’ll definitely defy the odds.
âI think it’s a really tough crazy direction that she wants to go with her talent and her hard work and everything in between. I have no doubt that it will go all the way, âexplains Vogel.
Most recently, Brianna entered a contest called “The Opening Act” where performers were elected to run for a superstar at the Hollywood Bowl in October.
âWe are currently in the top 10 of the group. Every Thursday they make another cut. Just to make the first cut was cool because it’s a national competition with artists from all over. We’re currently the first in our group, so that’s cool, âsays Helbling.
At just 20 years old, the entertainment industry can be intimidating but it motivates it to be better.
âI’m young but there are people just as young doing the same thing. It motivates me to do better because if I want to stay on top, I have to keep improving regardless of my age, âsays Helbling.
She is currently in the quarterfinals of the competition and voting is open until 8 p.m. tonight. Visit here to vote for Brianna Helbling.
